Mesa County Animal Services transitions to a separate enforcement and services model
Mesa County is implementing significant changes to its animal services operations to improve animal welfare and enhance public safety. Starting Jan. 1, 2025, Animal Services will operate under a separate enforcement and services model, a shift in how animal-related responsibilities are managed within Mesa County.

Sheriff’s Office to take over law enforcement for Collbran
Starting Aug. 1, 2024, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) will provide law enforcement services to the Town of Collbran. In an intergovernmental agreement approved by Mesa County Commissioners at their July 30 public hearing, the town agreed to pay $145,835 for law enforcement for the remainder of 2024 and $350,000 for the entire calendar year 2025.

Western Colorado counties support Shoshone water rights purchase
Colorado River water is the lifeblood of Mesa County and the western U.S. as a whole, and the protection of this resource is crucial for the future prosperity of our community. For this reason, Commissioners approved a letter to Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper in support of the Colorado River Water Conservation District’s (Colorado River District’s) effort to acquire and permanently protect the Shoshone water rights at their July 30 administrative public hearing. The letter is from the Western District of Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI), which consists of 16 counties on the Western Slope, including Mesa County.

Beginning on Aug. 12, 2024, the Clifton Motor Vehicle Office, 3225 I-70 Business Loop, is the only location where larger vehicles and trailers can receive VIN inspections.
