Mesa County Animal Services transitions to a separate enforcement and services model
Mesa County is implementing significant changes to its animal services operations to improve animal welfare and enhance public safety. Starting Jan. 1, 2025, Animal Services will operate under a separate enforcement and services model, a shift in how animal-related responsibilities are managed within Mesa County.

County sends letter of support for Down Payment Assistance Program
Steep prices and a lack of inventory has made finding affordable housing difficult nationwide, but Mesa County is supporting community partners in their mission to find solutions. During the July 23 administrative public hearing, Commissioners approved a letter to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) in support of Housing Resources of Western Colorado’s Down Payment Assistance (DPA) Program funding application. In association with Com Act Housing Corporation, this program helps residents become first time homeowners despite the current market conditions.

Progress made on Justice Center Courtroom Design project
Mesa County is one step closer to its commitment to provide our community with court facilities that meet modern standards and the increasing demands of our legal system. At the July 23 public hearing, Commissioners authorized the Mesa County Facilities Director to approve a change order to a contract for the design of a second courtroom on the second floor of the Mesa County Justice Center. The amended contract with Blythe Group + Co. is for $105,920, down from the original contract amount of $215,600 awarded in January 2024.

Public input on draft Dolores Canyon National Conservation Area map

Both counties created the map as an alternative to the proposed Dolores Canyons National Monument, aiming to balance resource conservation, multiple-use principles, economic prosperity, and local values.
