Know what to do during a fentanyl overdose.

What are the symptoms of a fentanyl overdose?

  • Decreased breathing
  • Slow heart rate
  • Dizzy
  • Feeling tired
  • Pinpoint pupils
  • Confusion
  • Blue around lips or fingernails
  • Unconscious

What to do if someone is overdosing?

  • Call 911 immediately.
  • Administer naloxone, if available.
  • Try to keep the person awake and breathing.
  • Lay the person on their side to prevent choking.
  • Stay with them until emergency workers arrive.

What is naloxone?

Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose. Narcan is brand name for naloxone.

How do you administer naloxone?

  • Call 911.
  • Peel back the tab. Place the nozzle into one nostril. Press plunger firmly.
  • Roll the person onto their side.
  • Stay until medical help arrives.

Mesa County Public Health partners with the Western Colorado Area Health Education Center to maintain kiosks in the community. Each kiosk contains naloxone and information about how to help someone who is overdosing. The kiosks are located at:
