Safely dispose of sharps
May 6, 2024
Proper disposal of sharps is crucial for the safety of our community. Sharps include any device with a sharp point or edge that can puncture or cut skin.
Here's how to safely dispose of sharps:
- Purchase a sharps container from a pharmacy or other source, or use a strong plastic or metal container with a tightly secured lid.
- Label the container as “Used Sharps.”
- Firmly seal the container.
- Store the sealed sharps container away from children and pets.
- Drop off your sealed sharps container at the Mesa County Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 3071 U.S. Highway 50, Wednesday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Sharps disposal is free of charge for Mesa County residents.
NEVER recycle sharps, toss them loosely in the trash, or flush them down the toilet.
Your actions make a big difference in keeping our community safe and healthy. Thank you for properly disposing of sharps.
