As you stroll through the picturesque streets of Mesa County around autumn time, use nature's artwork as a reminder to compost your leaves.

Composting is nature's way of recycling nutrients from dead organic material into the building blocks for new plant growth. Mesa County Landfill has specialized heavy equipment to speed up this natural process, producing high-quality soil amendments available to the public at an affordable rate.

Head to the Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility, 3071 U.S. Hwy 50, with your leaves, tree limbs, grass clippings, weeds, hay, animal bedding, manure, and hedge trimmings. The hours of operation are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

You're giving your lawn and garden a winter coat when adding compost to your autumn routine. The insulation for the roots helps maximize the benefits of winter precipitation and rejuvenates your soil for a vibrant spring bloom.

Once you're done admiring the leaves' seasonal beauty, why not put those fallen leaves to good use? Bag them up and head to The Organic Materials Composting Facility. Let's give your leaves a fresh start to bring more beauty to our community.
