County to begin project to extend lifespan of roadways
Mesa County has signed a $697,376.30 contract to enhance roads in the Independence Valley subdivision and Orchard Mesa.
In Independence Valley, the project's scope focus is improving the subdivision's entire road network. The planned work includes milling, wide crack repair, and asphalt patching at selected crack locations. Additionally, minor crack-sealing efforts will be undertaken before applying a cape seal treatment across all roads within the subdivision. This extensive approach aims to significantly enhance the road's durability and driving quality, ensuring a smoother and safer experience for residents and visitors alike.
Orchard Mesa's project segment will see a focused application of cape seal treatment on various roadways as outlined in the project's plans and specifications. This preventive maintenance technique combines a chip seal layer with a slurry seal on top, providing a new wearing surface that extends the life of the roads and improves overall driveability. With rising expenses and constrained budgets, the Public Works is adopting innovative strategies, like cape seals, to maintain County roads at lower costs while extending their lifespan.
Residents of Mesa County can expect to see work commence in the coming months, with both areas benefiting from these much-needed improvements. The project aims to enhance road safety and comfort and preserve the longevity of the County's road network, ensuring it can withstand the demands of daily use for years to come.
