The cliffside west of the 29 Road Bridge slid into the Colorado River on June 30, 2023, leading Mesa County Public Works, Mesa County Emergency Management, Mesa County Sheriff's Office, and Grand Junction Fire Department to respond to the scene to assess and evaluate the situation. The public is encouraged to avoid the area for safety reasons.

There is a high safety risk to rafters recreating on the Colorado River as the slide caused multiple trees to fall into the river. Rafters must stay river right well before reaching this area. The agencies involved are currently placing warning signs along the river route.

“We have temporarily fenced off the area and closed the road above the slide,” Mesa County Public Works Director Scott Mai said. “We are in contact with slide specialists to see what we can do to ensure safety along the rim.”

There is no sign of danger on C Road at this time, but it is best practice for the public to avoid the area for precautionary measures.
