The City of Grand Junction and Mesa County invites the community to attend a public open house to discuss a new I-70 interchange at 29 Road on Tuesday, June 13, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Grand Junction Church of Christ at 2893 Patterson Road.

The open house is designed so community members can review potential design configurations, goals, and outcomes of the transportation study evaluating the project. In addition to attending the event, community members can provide input online.

An I-70 Interchange at 29 Road will complete the transportation loop around Grand Junction, provide critical community access, support economic opportunity, and enhance local and regional connectivity.

The need for an interchange in northeast Grand Junction was identified in 1999. Since then, studies have identified the benefits and potential environmental impacts of an interchange. Previous studies have positioned the city and county for future state and federal funding opportunities.

“The I-70 interchange at 29 Road is the last section of the transportation loop in Grand Junction and will provide the final connection to improve regional access for shopping, lodging, restaurants, and other activities,” stated Grand Junction Mayor Anna Stout. “This interchange will be a key component of our transportation network."

“An I-70 interchange at 29 Road will improve connectivity, community access, and economic opportunity," said Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis. "We hope community members will join us on June 13 to discuss design options and provide valuable input for this project."

In 2022, a vision and goals for future design concepts were developed with local governments. Additionally, an extensive stakeholder outreach process helped to build consensus and document key issues and opportunities with local businesses, schools, economic development, airport, and planning organizations.

Following the presentation of design concepts to the public, a design will be developed based on a number of factors which will include environmental impact, community context, cost and long-term maintenance, impact on local property owners, and efficiency within the regional transportation network.

Project information can be found here. Additional opportunities for public input on the project design will be available through 2023 and into 2024.
