Starting Nov. 1, 2024, our Mesa County Noxious Weed and Pest department will do noxious weed treatments to restore natural areas at Clifton Nature Park and The Ponds. Through funding from the America the Beautiful grant, this essential work focuses on removing invasive species and enhancing our community’s open spaces!

Here’s what to expect at the two locations during November:

  • Targeted treatments for Russian knapweed, Russian olive, Siberian elm, and tamarisk
  • Methods Used: Herbicide spraying, chainsaw work, and chipper use to clear invasive plants
  • Safety Signage: Signs are placed throughout each area to inform visitors

Important Safety Note: Areas treated with herbicide will be marked with a blue residue. For your safety, please avoid these areas and practice caution near work zones, especially if you have kids or pets on your walk.

The timing of this work helps protect the endangered Yellow-billed cuckoo, a species of bird known to nest near the treatment areas. Your cooperation allows us to create safe, thriving spaces for both wildlife and our community members!

Thank you for your understanding and support!
