At their June 4 administrative public hearing, the Mesa County Commissioners ratified the Public Work Director’s signature, accepting a $110,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Agriculture to assist in Mesa County's effort to eradicate the Japanese Beetle.

Since the Board of County Commissioners declared the Japanese Beetle a public nuisance in 2023, Mesa County has worked diligently with local nurseries, farmers, CSU Extension, the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and the City of Grand Junction to ensure our local agriculture remains protected from the invasive species' potential damage.

The grant money will help fund the county’s current pesticide spraying efforts, which are taking place around Grand Junction in the infestation hot zone, from 24 Road and Horizon Drive between G Road and H Road.
