Mesa County has approved a grant agreement with Grand Valley Catholic Outreach (GVCO) to provide up to $210,000 to support their Stop Eviction! rental assistance initiative. The total grant award includes a 14.5% County match of $30,450 and $179,550 in federal funds. This funding will aid the program in its mission to prevent families with children from facing homelessness.

The grant is funded through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, administered by Mesa County Department of Human Services (MCDHS). This grant program aims to support initiatives like Stop Eviction! that are focused on preventing homelessness and evictions, with an emphasis on providing applicants with assistance from a case worker who can help them navigate the process.

Stop Eviction! helps eligible families who have been served an eviction notice by connecting them to services and providing them with financial assistance while teaching them management skills. Each household supported by Stop Eviction! receives an average allocation of $400 to $500. A GVCO volunteer will interview applicants and assist each household applying for rental assistance with a monthly budget and financial literacy training. During their initial interview, eligible applicants may also be referred to Case Management Light, where a case worker can assess their situation and needs before referring them to the Mesa County Workforce Center Job Services Team.

This program supports the community by enabling families in need to care for their children in their own homes while also fostering job readiness and financial responsibility, offering these families a chance at a brighter future.

To find out if you or a family you know may be eligible for rental assistance through the Stop Eviction! program, visit the GVCO website, or call 970-241-3658.
