On June 6, a $179,000 contract was approved for roof replacement of the old Mesa County Courthouse, 544 Rood Ave.

The existing roof has served its lifecycle since its installation in 2000. Comprised of a 60 mil TPO (Thermoplastic Olefin) material, the roof has undergone numerous repairs over the years. However, after careful evaluation, it has been determined that the roof has surpassed its expected service life.

To address this issue and ensure the structural integrity of the courthouse, the Mesa County facilities department initiated a bidding process (IFB 2325-23-KY). Qualified and interested companies were invited to submit proposals encompassing all necessary labor, equipment, and materials to remove the existing TPO roof system and insulation. The subsequent installation would involve a brand-new, state-of-the-art 60 mil TPO roofing system, specifically on the north side of the Mesa County Old Courthouse.

Four bids were received from various companies vying to undertake this significant restoration project. Each submission was meticulously reviewed to ensure compliance with the requirements outlined in the invitation for bid.

A contract was approved for the selected company to replace the roof after a thorough evaluation. This decision was made with the utmost consideration for taxpayer funds, ensuring transparency and accountability in the allocation of resources.

Replacing the old Mesa County Courthouse roof marks a vital investment in preserving our community's historical and architectural heritage. By addressing the deteriorating top and replacing it with a durable and modern roofing system, we are safeguarding this cherished landmark for generations to come.
