Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grant Application Approved
At this week’s Nov. 19 public hearing, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a $20 million grant application to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grant program!
If awarded, this funding will bring incredible improvements to the Clifton area through the Clifton Community Commons Phase I Implementation project.
Here’s what’s envisioned:
- New maintenance building near Rocky Mountain Park
- Repurposing a gravel pit into an 84-acre public park with a lake naturally filled by Colorado River groundwater
- Attempting to partner with Clifton Water District to make the lake a backup water resource
- Planning and building a new Clifton Community School Yard
- Two solar arrays
We’re working with amazing partners like the Clifton Water District, Mesa County Public Health, Trust for Public Land, Wunder Club, and Clifton Community Outreach to ensure this project reflects our community’s needs and priorities.
This initiative aims to address local climate challenges, reduce pollution, and create spaces that strengthen and connect our community.
If the grant is awarded, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to hear your input and bring these plans to life. Stay tuned for project updates and chances to share your voice!
