Veterans Day is a great time to reflect, appreciate, and extend our support to the heroes who have served our nation.

This Veterans Day, let's come together to celebrate the veterans among us and ensure they receive the recognition and assistance they deserve.

Exceptional Healthcare for Our Veterans

Right here in Grand Junction, we're proud to have one of the finest VA Medical Centers in the nation. It serves our community and extends its care to Western Colorado, Eastern Utah, and the Navajo Nation.

Colorado State Veterans Cemetery

Our community is fortunate to have the Colorado State Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction. This serene resting place is free of charge for our Colorado resident veterans and their spouses who meet the necessary service qualifications. It's a place where our heroes can find eternal peace.

Dedicated Support Through Veterans Service Officers (VSOs)

Our community is home to diligent Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) who are here to assist veterans with their VA claims and provide essential support. Anthony Lee has served as the Mesa County VSO since 2020, supported by Assistant VSO Laura Stanley and a team of interns.

Fostering Veteran Employment

The Mesa County Workforce Center has a dedicated state employee, Michael Smith, who works tirelessly to promote veteran employment. He aims to connect veterans with job opportunities and encourage local employers to hire veterans, recognizing their valuable contributions.

A Network of Support

Beyond our VSOs and employment support, numerous organizations in our area are committed to assisting veterans. From the Veterans of Foreign Wars to the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion, these groups provide vital support and camaraderie to our veterans. Additionally, organizations like Operation Interdependence and Blue Star Mothers are there to support our active-duty military members.

Unlocking VA Benefits

Veterans are encouraged to make appointments with our VSOs to ensure they know their full benefits and entitlements.

Legislative Updates: PACT Act and Blue Water Navy Act

Recent legislative updates, such as the PACT Act and the Blue Water Navy Act, have expanded services and benefits for veterans. These changes have positively impacted Vietnam-era veterans and those exposed to Agent Orange. If you are eligible for these benefits or have questions, please contact the Mesa County Veterans Office.

How We Can Help

Our Mesa County Veterans Office does more than just assist with claims. They help homeless veterans access benefits, increase income through disability or pension claims, and facilitate access to VA healthcare, reducing the need for Medicaid. Their one-on-one case management supports veterans in finding employment and encourages local businesses to hire veterans.
