The Mesa County Commissioners adopted a resolution to approve the Mesa County Safety Action Plan at their Nov. 12 public hearing after watching a briefing from the Regional Transportation Planning Office Transportation Planner, Rachel Peterson, on the plan.

The Mesa County Safety Action Plan is the first of its kind — a 12-month study that kicked off in October of 2023 and aims to identify solutions to reduce the number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads across Mesa County.

Over the past year, the Regional Transportation Planning Office conducted two phases of valued public input and collaborated with community stakeholders to create four focus areas based on their findings. The four focus areas are:

  1. Build Safe Streets
  2. Protect Vulnerable Road Users
  3. Address Dangerous Behaviors
  4. Create a Culture of Safety

These priorities drive us toward a safer future for all in Mesa County. Everyone deserves peace of mind on our roads — whether driving, biking, wheeling, or walking.
