Ordinance Restricting Travel in Designated areas by certain vehicles
On Dec. 19, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners, during their administrative public hearing, introduced the first reading of Ordinance 16 Restricting Travel in Designated Mesa County Areas by Certain Vehicles.
This ordinance aims to create a restriction on the travel of trucks and trailers on certain county roads to reduce traffic and strain from local roadways and protect pedestrians, travelers, and homeowners from increased hazards on the road near the Loma port of entry in Mesa County.
Mesa County is experiencing large trucks and trailers traveling through Mesa County on residential farm-to-market roads rather than properly utilizing major highways and Interstate 70 (I-70) — causing safety and traffic concerns.
The county commissioners will revisit Ordinance 16 on Jan. 9, 2024, during their regular administrative public hearing to do a final reading and potential approval.
Copies of the proposed ordinance are available for public inspection in the Mesa County Administration Office, 544 Rood Ave., Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
