The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard commenced the May 7 administrative public hearing with a presentation of the flags before the Board of Mesa County Commissioners formally declared May 5 - 11, 2024, as Correctional Officers Week in Mesa County.

Correctional officers are trained law enforcement professionals dedicated to maintaining secure correctional facilities and ensuring the public’s safety.

Sheriff Todd Rowell spoke of the importance of the work Correctional Officers do each day to keep our community safe and shared insights into the job’s demands, including one Correctional Officer looking after 90 inmates at times.

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jeffrey Byrne expressed appreciation to the officers and staff who make it possible to achieve such hefty goals.

Thank you to all Correctional Officers for your tremendous work and dedication to safeguarding our community under the most challenging circumstances.
