On May 9, 2023, during the regular administrative public hearing, the Board of County Commissioners enacted an ordinance to prevent rubbish accumulation and create a healthier community.

This ordinance will prioritize the well-being and safety of the County's residents by addressing the issues associated with the accumulation of trash, which could pose various environmental and health hazards.

Several residents attended the public hearing to share their support for the adoption of the ordinance.

The ordinance provides a transparent and legally-binding process for the County to remove waste from properties that fail to comply with the outlined standards. Property owners, occupants, and managers must adhere to specific rubbish storage, removal, and disposal regulations. Non-compliance may result in a notice to cure or a notice of violation, followed by the possibility of the County obtaining an administrative warrant to remove the accumulated rubbish from the property.

Mesa County strongly encourages all community members to take responsibility for the cleanliness and health of their surroundings by properly disposing of their rubbish and supporting responsible waste management practices.
