Today, the Board of County Commissioners recognized Joaquin, an eight-year-old in our community, for his outstanding character and leadership. Recently, he took it upon himself to remove inappropriate graffiti from the Rocky Mountain Elementary Park playground. He did this to protect his younger peers and ensure that the playground continues to bring children and our community joy.

At a heartfelt ceremony during the commissioner administrative public hearing, Joaquin was given a special coin and a certificate of excellence as a thank-you for his kindness, responsibility, and initiative. The ceremony was attended by District 51 Superintendent Brian Hill, Rocky Mountain Elementary School Principal Tyler Jones, Third Grade Teacher Mrs. Pattie Salazar, and other community members.

Let’s all use Joaquin's inspiring commitment as a reminder of the positive impact of individual actions and the power one person can have in making their community a better place.
